A five-day trip to the Swiss area of Magic Wood, one of the most famous bouldering spots in Europe. This was my very first climbing experience at this iconic place – and I already know it won’t be my last.
Unfortunately, on the very first day I tore the skin on my fingers and got a nasty split. Luckily, I had Rhino Skin Split+ with me, which helped my skin heal faster over the following days. Thanks to that, I was at least able to climb easier but still valuable boulders.
Despite the setback, I truly enjoyed the trip. I finally had the chance to “touch” some of the legendary problems I had only known from videos until now. I even managed to send Muttertag (8A) on my third attempt, and I came very close to topping out Power of Now (8B+).
For the trip, I packed both Tokyo Powder RX and V3 chalk. In the cold and humid mornings I preferred V3, while in the sunny and warmer afternoons I switched to RX. The difference in grip was really noticeable.
Magic Wood showed me how powerful the atmosphere of a place can be. Even though it wasn’t my most successful climbing trip in terms of hard sends, it was extremely enriching. I brought home plenty of motivation for future training sessions – and, of course, a long list of boulders I want to return to. Next time, with healed fingers and full strength.
